A grand jury investigating a shooting has indicted Brown, a Dallas Police Department lieutenant who helped found the Taser squad, for first-degree murder in the May 2011 shooting death of a SWAT team member. The indictment is a violation of the grand jury’s orders that Brown and a second officer not be let off with pay, according to the Dallas Morning News. The indictment carries a maximum five-month term. ”Our members have acted independently and there’s no reason to believe they acted independently without supervision, as police officers. I am asking the U.S. Attorney to act as a deterrent for those responsible for the May shootings who continue to endanger our members,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Tuesday.
